Our Program
We serve children, ages 7-11 years, in foster or kinship care in the Lewis-Clark Valley, and surrounding areas.
Annually, 3.6 million cases of child abuse, neglect or abandonment are reported in America. One of these victims dies every six hours due to that abuse. However, you can make a difference through your support of For The Children.
For The Children is a 501(c)(3) tax-exempt non-profit organization. Donations and gifts are tax-deductible, as allowed by law.
Activities are purposely designed to be non-competitive and non-threatening, while allowing children to experience success.
NOTE- The faces of the children are not shown for privacy reasons, unless permission was obtained.
Activity Centers
We design the week at camp specifically to build meaningful memories for the campers, and to have carefree time to which they are not accustomed. There are activity centers for the campers to utilize during free time. Activity centers include arts and crafts, special art projects, woodworking, the Princess Palace, the Clubhouse, water slides, sports, and more.
Theme Days
Royal Family KIDS Lewiston has three theme days that both Campers and Staff can participate in. We have fun coordinating outfits, being silly, and being one big happy Royal Family together on these days!
Evening Events
At Royal Family KIDS Camp we try to do everything we can to make the Campers feel seen, important, and loved. We have events each day that allow them to feel special and puts them in the limelight in ways they normally do not get to experience.
Princess Tea Party
The goal of Royal Family KIDS Camp is to make all children feel special. These girls don't normally get the chance to dress up, and feel fancy. For the tea party, the campers and the staff both dress up, receive a tiara, and are escorted in to the event by the male volunteers, who are also dressed up. Each girl's name is announced, and they are made to feel like the special princess that we know them to be!
Man Cave Movie Night
While the princesses are being spoiled, the boys get a night of fun watching a movie with the male volunteers. Each boy gets to pick a hat, wear a mustache if they'd like, and watch a movie while enjoying some treats.
Talent Show
Children from adverse situations often spend their days simply surviving. It is not often that these kiddos are celebrated for their talents and abilities. During the Talent Show, campers and adults are able to showcase abilities, or just be silly. Everyone cheers for each act, no matter how simple or complex! Each of the children get to be a star for the evening, and gain boosted confidence and feelings of self-worth.
Carnival
What child doesn't like a carnival with tons of fun games and prizes?! During the carnival, the campers can test their skills at games like fishing or bowling, can play ball games for prizes, or participate in the stuffed animal walk. There is face-painting, and a bounce castle to enjoy as well! The campers have so much fun seeing how many prizes they can win.
Everyone's Birthday Party
When Royal Family KIDS Camp was first started, workers found out that many of the campers had never had a birthday party. Some of the campers were foster children that traveled from home to home. Some of them were from homes that could not afford to throw them a birthday party. At camp, the birthday party is a big surprise! It is labeled the "Big BP" on the schedule, and it's amazing to see the wonder on the new campers faces when they walk in. Campers that have been to camp before make sure to keep the Big BP a surprise for the new campers, because they remember the awe from their first experience. Each camper gets an individual homemade birthday cake, hats, and a gift. We find out what the campers like in the first days of camp, and have a runner in town that picks up individualized gifts for each child. Each year, we have had at least one camper that had never experienced a birthday party before- often more than one.
Polar Plunge
For the adventurous and brave, we have a Polar Plunge one morning of the week. Campers and volunteers alike get to slide down into the freezing water to show how brave they are! Those that don't want to participate are invited to come watch the fun! Plunging into that cold water is like a badge of honor for everyone- and the event really wakes them up for the day!
Graduation
Because the campers that attend Royal Family KIDS Camp are between the ages of 7 and 11 years old, they all eventually graduate out of the program. Whether a camper has been to camp several years, or just one year, graduation is an emotional time for all who attend. They are reminded of the importance of their name, and how special they are to all volunteers. Campers can share special memories of their time at camp, and can talk to volunteers that they are close to. The goal for all graduating campers is to come back to camp when they are 15 years old to be a Buddy Camper volunteer. Please see the Success Stories section of this website to see stories of some campers that were able to return to work camp! All graduates also sign a flag that is hung up each year, so that they will always be a part of camp with us.
